Video too large to email on iPhone
Most email services stop at 25 MB per message, and iCloud Mail at 20 MB. iPhone video is far bigger: a minute of 1080p video is often 60 MB or more. There are two ways out. Send a link instead of the file, or make the video smaller.
When a link is fine: Mail Drop
When an attachment is too big, Mail on iPhone offers Mail Drop. It puts the video in iCloud and sends a link instead. The attachment can be up to 5 GB, and the person you send it to has 30 days to download it. If a link will do, this is the easiest way.
When it has to be the file
Some inboxes, upload forms and work systems want a real attachment, and some videos you would rather not put on a server at all. Then make the video smaller on your phone:
- Open itfits in Safari.
- Tap Add Files and choose the video. The limit starts at Email, 25 MB.
- itfits lowers the bitrate, and the resolution if it has to, until the video fits. Then tap Share and choose Mail.
A one-minute video fits one email at about 960 pixels wide, which looks fine on a phone. Up to about six minutes fits at low quality. Anything longer will not fit one email, and itfits says so instead of sending something unwatchable.
Open itfitsFree, no account, and nothing is uploaded.
